Dr. Danny Frye

Director of Athletic Bands

Dr. Danny Frye is High Point University's first-ever Director of Athletic Bands. Charged with developing a more vibrant athletic program to enhance school spirit and pride, Dr. Frye has embarked on an ambitious plan to establish the High Point University Marching Panthers Band, and develop a unique band experience to enhance the HPU game-day experiences and campus life. Under Frye's leadership, the Band has grown significantly, both in numbers and quality.

Dr. Joshua Gillen

Assistant Director of Athletic Bands

Dr. Gillen is the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at High Point University  He has served as a staff member of the Auburn University Bands, including the 380 member Auburn University Marching Band, and the University of Kentucky Bands including the Wildcat Marching Band. Dr. Gillen is an avid music arranger and drill designer whose work has been performed by high school and college bands across the country.  Dr. Gillen is an eclectic and versatile drill designer, familiar with the techniques of traditional style, competitive corps style, and picture/animation drill. Dr. Gillen often blends these techniques to create unique productions that are both exiting for audiences and artistically fulfilling for students. His collegiate shows have been featured on both the UDB and CollegeMarching.com social media accounts.

Stephanie Caldwell

Colorguard Instructor

Stephanie Caldwell is an alumna of High Point University. She works as an elementary school teacher in Davidson County Schools. In addition to high school marching band and winter guard, Stephanie marched Music City Drum and Bugle Corps in the summer of 2018. She has been working as a color guard instruction since 2015 and has worked with guards at High Point University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Avery County High School, and Hickory High School.
